Saturday, 10:20pm...
Mood: Tired but Content
Listening: Yo Yo Ma, Bobby McFerrin - Hush, Moby - 18
Wearing: bright red Korea Football Team T-shirt

Well Korea did it again. First they downed Italy, a repeat of the historic victory back in 1966. It was such a crazy moment, I know cuz I was lucky enuff to be there. I think it was the most memorable sports moment I've ever experienced. Honorable mentions: Lakers winning back to back in the 80's, Tyus Edney's 4.4 second miracle in the 1995 March Madness, Joe Carter Grand Slam to win the world series, and of course, the Kirk Gibson home run off Dennis Eckersley. But nothing was quite like this one. Imagine the sea of fans dressed in red lining the stadium, cheering ceaselessly, all standing for the entire game, chanting "Dae Han Min Gook", which means "The Great Republic of Korea". At other times there were chants of "Ole...", "Go West", and "Oooh Pipsin Korea!" The script couldn't have been any better either. I mean, the world cup isn't going to come to Korea again for like another 40 years, and even then, they might not be able to achieve what has been done here, to get the first win in world cup finals, to advance to stage 2, then to beat italy against all odds. In the game itself, Korea overcame a missed penalty kick, a Vieri goal, only to equalize in the final minutes of the 2nd half, then having Ahn Jun Hwan, who had been mediocre the entire game, score the golden goal to complete the great comeback. Well, today, they did it again against Spain. It came down to penalty kicks, and Korea won 5:3 there. Only 4 more teams remain. Brazil, Turkey, Germany, and Korea.

Seeing how 32 teams have been whittled down to just 4 teams, I'm reminded of how my time here is also reaching it's final conclusion. It's not time yet to deeply reflect or anything like that, but I think I love football now. It really is a metaphor for life, the anticipation, the joy, the pain, the brotherhood, the journey, and the fact that it has an exciting beginning and it will all come to an end. The tournament is too short in terms of days, but it's just enough to make it special.

Work has been less demanding now. I still work around 70+ hrs, but it's not as hectic as before. I got to visit Seoul more now and since I also got a new digital camera, I went out shooting everything I'm visually attracted to... I do miss you all, as I have realized that memories have to be shared. I too, along with some others, are learning to be content at where we are and to be content despite my loneliness.
