Retro blogs 10/30, Tokyo:
Highlights:
1) Sitting at Starbucks people watching at the busiest intersection in the world at Shibuya. People were like ants and the cars merely streaking lights on my photos. There's rhythm in the way the intersection action all plays out. Neon lights, sounds of tv ads and musical cellphones, people decked out in their unique fashion statements. Definitely one of the most unique places in the world.
2) I love Uniqlo, Muji, Tokyu Hands, and Loft! Japan is definitely the King of Design. I wish I can bring all their designs back with me! Uniqlo is a clothing store, Muji has everything, Tokyu Hands is an eccentric dept store, and Loft is another design oriented dept store.
3) Everything here is so orderly and everything has rules. There's definitely a group concept here. Things run like clockwork. Just like the subway and other transportation systems here, or how you can't get breakfast at 10:01am because then, it'll be lunch time and not breakfast time. They're very serious about this one. Things seem black and white.
4) If you speak English anywhere in Japan, people will stare at you. If you're with a caucasian, they will stare at you longer.
5) The food is so good here! We had sushi at Tsukiji, ramen, made our own okonomiyaki at Shinjuku, katsu, even onigiri from Lawson's, a local convenience store. Mmmmm.....
6) Family trips are always a work of art. We get on each other's nerves, we get frustrated, we laugh and joke around, we chat, we go through experiences together, we learn more about each other. I'm glad that we get to go on this trip together. We won't have many of these in the future, so make the most of it.
